Justin Mumma

Senior, Biology

Justin is a senior biology student at the University of Washington with an interest in psychopharmacology, pain, and addiction. His work in the lab focuses on in vitro pharmacology, utilizing mammalian cell culture for cell-based assays characterizing therapeutics to treat opioid use disorder.

Justin grew up in the Pacific Northwest and saw the harms of the opioid crisis firsthand, which created a deep care to help reduce the suffering caused by addiction and overdose. He began his academic journey at Lake Washington Institute of Technology, where he completed his high school diploma and an associate’s degree in business, before his growing interest in pharmacology led him to transition to science, attend the University of Washington, and pursue research.

Outside of the lab, Justin enjoys painting & spending time in nature, as well as practicing mindfulness and Theravada Buddhism. He also volunteers with the King County Crisis Line and the Seattle Insight Meditation Society.
